Fish Stories

Fish all over the world have been getting smaller and less able to reproduce for decades. Scientists now largely connect this to harvesting practices among both commercial and recreational fishers. The traditional selection of bigger, healthier-looking fish for trophy cases and dinner plates has taken its toll, and evolution has taken over. When human selection favors the biggest and the best, the smallest and the worst have a chance to thrive, if only to the degree that Long John Silver’s chooses not to serve tiny, tasteless fish. Oh, wait…

Science has also found evidence that this trend can be reversed, but it will be a long, slow process that will take generations and perhaps never be completely successful.
