Ben Franklin chides TSA shenanigans

with 3 comments

The life of a sick teenager with a feeding tube in his stomach was allegedly jeopardized by Orlando International Airport Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screeners last month.

The teen said screeners opened and contaminated a packaged back-up tube that was otherwise sealed against adventitious biological agents, and which the youth subsequently needed. (link)

This comes scarcely a month after testers slipped bombs and loaded guns past TSA screeners (links and links and links).

One is left with the distinct impression that the officials responsible for protecting travelers against terrorism are the very ones repeatedly allowing (if not enabling) threats against travelers.

I am reminded of a phrase often wrongly attributed to Benjamin Franklin, who claimed to have published but not created some version of the saying: “People willing to trade freedom for security deserve neither and will lose both.” more here
